Before we begin, I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation for us to learn about each other and decide if we’re a good fit. I have an office and Yoga Studio in Oakland and can also see clients throughout California through video sessions. During this initial phone call, we will decide what works best for you.
Trust and a good therapeutic alliance are the foundation of successful treatment. To be honest, many people feel nervous about the idea of opening up to a stranger. As it can take time to develop rapport, I usually schedule three individual sessions with teens before meeting with their parents. This gives space to get comfortable and know that they are in the driver’s seat of their therapy. During this time we discuss the limits of confidentiality, get to know each other, formulate initial goals and a treatment plan. Then, I meet alone with parents to learn more about your concerns and hopes for our work together. Although privacy is essential in working with adolescents, I see my role as an alliance with parents.
While I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a goal oriented shorter term modality, I establish long term relationships with many of my clients. Weekly sessions are usually scheduled at first, then we may taper to every other week, and finally as needed.
